The developer of the proposed Gateway Development at Johnson Drive and Roeland Avenue has a new plan to make the project more acceptable to concerned residents.

The new idea is to add a roof-top park across half of the four-acre Wal-Mart roof.

Josh Shelton with El Dorado Architects in Kansas City, Mo., said the idea for roof-top green space on the Walmart came from one of the residents.

If the proposed project is approved:

  • People would be able to walk on a bridge from the parking lot to the roof top park
  • There would also be a track for jogging or walking and seating areas to relax

The developer, Tom Valentio, is meeting with residents Tuesday night at the Sylvester Powell Community Center in Mission to discuss building plans.

The proposed green rooftop still needs approval from the Mission Planning Commission.

The commission could consider the proposal later this month.
