KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of another man last year.

Kansas City police found the body of Derrick C. White inside a vehicle in the 6700 block of Walrond on April 1, 2019. Investigators say he was fatally shot March 3, 2019 by Brandon L. Hill.

Prosecutors say DNA taken from the vehicle door was later matched to Hill, who is currently in federal custody. Hill was taken into custody March 31, 2019 for robbery. He had three firearms including a 9mm handgun that police later determined had White's DNA on it. The bullet found inside White also was determined to have been fired by the same handgun.

Hill is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond.
