KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mike Slagle will take the reins as superintendent of the Raymore-Peculiar School District next summer.

The district made the announcement Monday.

Slagle, who currently serves as deputy superintendent for the Blue Valley School District, replaces outgoing superintendent Kari Monsees, who announced in August that he would retire after the 2019-20 academic year.

Slagle, who was one of eight finalists for the position, officially takes over July 1, 2020. The Ray-Pec school board approved his hiring Saturday during a special meeting.

"The Board is excited to bring on Dr. Slagle.” Board President Ruth Johnson said in a statement from the district. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will benefit our District in the years to come."

According to a release from the district, the board also praised Slagle’s “leadership skills, financial expertise, experience working with a growing district, experience in strategic planning, and knowledge” of Ray-Pec initiatives.

“I am beyond excited to become a part of the Ray-Pec family and community,” Slagle said. “This is a Board of Education and school district committed to educational excellence, student and staff success, and loyal community support. Those values parallel my values, and it excites me to be a part of that team."

Ray-Pec is the 13th largest school district in the Kansas City area.
