RAYTOWN, Mo. - A 43-year-old Raytown man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the choking death of a neighbor.

Michael G. Augustine faces Involuntary Manslaughter First Degree.

The Jackson County Prosecutors office says Augustine called Raytown police shortly after 10:00 Friday night about an intruder in his home at 8815 Richards Drive.

Officers responded, but found no one home.

Augustine says he had the intruder in his front yard.

Police canvassed the area and found Augustine holding victim Clifton King in a choke hold in front of King's residence at 9009 Richards Drive, not far from Augustine's home.

King was later pronounced dead.

Officers believed Augustine was intoxicated because of his incoherent speech and the strong odor of alcohol.
