RAYTOWN, Mo. — The Raytown School District has launched a new app this month called, "Here Comes the Bus."

With this district-funded app, parents can track their child's bus and see when it's coming to their stop.

It also alerts them when the bus should arrive at school and when it's unloading in the afternoon.

"The app allows the transportation department to communicate with parents quickly," said Kevin Easley, director of transportation for Raytown school district. "And if there was a delay, we can send out a message through the app to tell parents that there's buses behind. Or we can notify parents when there's a substitute bus if there's a bus breakdown, and normally students ride in bus 1 and today it's going to be bus 2, they'll know to be looking for a different number on the side."

Easley said it gives parents a real time look at their child's bus route in the palm of their hands.

"We only have five people in the office answering the phones so in the morning when buses get behind, or we have delays or snow or weather, the 6th person that calls doesn't always get somebody to answer. So, if we can help parents find a way to find that information, they can get a quick response without having to wait for someone to call them back or wait to be the next person on hold," Easley said.

The app is not without safeguards — not everyone has access to the information on the app. There are certain requirements and criteria in order to have detailed access to the app.
