Red Cross helps Overland Park woman displaced in fire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The American Red Cross is helping an Overland Park woman after her home caught fire on Christmas morning.

Around 8 a.m., crews from the Overland Park Fire Department and Johnson County, Kansas, Consolidated Fire District No. 2 were sent to the woman’s home in the 8100 block of Riggs Lane.

The fire, believed to have started in the kitchen, was put out in less than 30 minutes.

A spokesperson said the fire caused significant damage to the kitchen and living area of the home.

The woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.
