KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Red Friday comes to Kansas City, Missouri, on a Wednesday this year.

The pep rally traditionally pumps up fans the Friday before the team's first home game of the NFL season.

The Chiefs host the first game of the 2020 season Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium when they play the Houston Texans.

Wednesday’s activities are dubbed “Red Friday Kickoff Edition.” The 29-year-old tradition encourages people to wear red clothing. It caps a week of events taking place all over the city.

A highlight of Red Friday is the sale of Chiefs Kingdom Flags. This year, the flag features the word “Champions” to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl LIV victory.

Flags cost $5 in person and are available beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at McDonald’s restaurants around Kansas City, St. Joseph and Springfield.

Money from the flag sales benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities. The organization provides free lodging to out of town families with children at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
