Gardner-Edgerton High School was all set to host its prom at Ritz Charles on Saturday. Students got the news Monday.

The junior class president, Taevheon Alcorn, said, “If you’re renting out the Ritz and you signed a contract and everything why would you guys tell us at such a late time?”

Thankfully, the Overland Park Convention Center is able to accomodate the prom with the exact same terms and pricing.

“You know this is a big day for all of them and to have something like this happen last minute must be a very stressful situation,”Tracy Roberts, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Overland Park Convention Center, said. In her 16 years with the center, she's never seen something like this before.

Emily Rempel said the prom committee, "Started since last year, the end of last year, to plan all of this and all of our hard work has just basically gone in the drain.”

Shae Stamps, a junior student council member is, "Excited that it’s still on. We’re just kind of upset that this had to happen and how business owners could do that to kids without any warning six days before our prom.”OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –
