BELTON, Mo. — Road conditions affected commutes for many drivers on Wednesday morning.

One Kansas City Public Schools bus slid and blocked traffic on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and near Linwood Boulevard.

In Belton, on Cedar Street and East South Street, a Belton School District bus slid partially into a ditch. Belton Police confirmed one student was on board during the incident.

It's those type of scenarios that parents worry about.

"Sliding off into a ditch, especially with a bus, that’s a lot of responsibility a bus driver because you’re not with your own self,” said parent Jason Looney. “You got all the other kids out there. It’s dangerous out there.”

Looney said he believes classes should have been canceled.

"I’d rather make up a snow day than somebody have an accident or something like that,” Looney said. “It’s pretty bad."

Another parent, Peggy Simmons, said she was picking up her daughter, who normally rides the bus.

41 Action News reached out to the school district about this incident and they referred to the message the superintendent Andrew Underwood sent parents in November.

In part, "We get information from the National Weather Service, DS Bus Lines, and other sources to ensure I have the most comprehensive information available to inform my decision… It is made based on the best information available and in the best interest of our students and staff."

Police said no one was hurt on the bus and there's no damage to the bus.
