KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A road rage incident led to a shooting in Gardner overnight, followed by a chase on Interstate 35 into Mission.

Gardner police said men in two vehicles encountered each other somewhere, which lead to an apparent confrontation and a shooting near Center and Pawnee streets about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The passenger of one vehicle reportedly fired two shots into the second vehicle, and at least one bullet hit the driver in the leg.

The vehicles then fled.

A short time later, area law enforcement encountered the suspect vehicle, and a chase began northbound on I-35 to Mission.

During the chase, the vehicle reportedly swerved toward a Mission officer attempting to deploy stop sticks. The officer was not injured.

The suspect vehicle was stopped a short time later and the driver was taken into custody, but the passenger and alleged shooter was not in the vehicle.

According to police, the suspect is described as having hair down to his eyebrows, wearing a dark hoody and sweatpants.

The shooting victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
