Robbery suspect impersonates KCPD, victim fires

Posted

A victim of an attempted Kansas City armed robbery told police he turned the tables; getting his own gun while the prowler was yelling "KCPD" and trying to knock down the door.

When the suspect successfully "cleared the threshold of the door" on the 11400 block of Corrington, the man inside started shooting.

"He came to the window and he broke it, so I was in the corner,” said Feras HaHah. “I wait for him to get in action then I shot back.”

HaHa says he’s only lived in the home for about a year and his top priority was protecting his family.

"I looked at my wife [and] said get inside the bedroom and grab baby everything [is] going to be alright,” HaHa said.

Officers were able to get to the scene before anyone was seriously injured.

"Presently we do not have anyone that's injured in this matter," said KCPD Sgt. Kari Thompson.

This marks the third incident in 7 days where a suspect impersonated police in some way, shape or form.

"In the last incidences they had on either a badge or some type of police short," said Sgt. Thompson. "This is the first case where we have had someone yell KCPD."

With the recent number of crimes in this nature, people are paying more attention to their surroundings.

"It’s scary in general, especially nowadays you have to be careful even walking out your door,” said neighbor Tanika Jones.

Police are still investigating the case and ask anyone with information on this crime to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8744.
