KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vehicle with a child inside was stolen Wednesday morning in the 5100 block of Merriam Drive in Merriam, Kansas.
Around 8:50 a.m., a man jumped in a running vehicle and took off, police said.
There was a 9-month-old child in the car at the time.
The owner of the car had a tracking device on their phone and Kansas City, Missouri, police were able to find the vehicle abandoned near Hy-Vee Arena just after 9 a.m.
Police said the child was fine after the incident.
Late Wednesday afternoon, police said a driver who had been following the stolen vehicle in a black pickup truck was identified and arrested.
The suspect who stole the car remained at large.
Merriam police described the suspect as a white man in their late 20s with a beard and a dark-colored coat.
