MERRIAM, Kan. — In the days leading up to Valentine's Day, the Russell Stover chocolate shops are busy.
Chocolate covered strawberries are a popular item this time of year.
“We start working with strawberry growers months and months in advance to make sure they have the supply of strawberries we need and to make sure they have the quality of berries that we need," said Christi Jones with Russell Stover.
Two strawberries are dipped in chocolate at a time to keep up with the demand. The excess chocolate is shaken off and they are decorated with sprinkles and chocolate drizzle.
There are four stores in the Kansas City area: Kansas City, Kan., Marriam, Fairway and Harrisonville.
Jones said that at the Merriam location, "We’ll dip about 20,000 over the course of the three days leading up to Valentine’s Day.”
Harrisonville has a vodka infused chocolate covered strawberry.
