Safety is top-of-mind at Johnson County Fair

The Johnson County Fair starts this week; on the minds of a lot of parents is the incident that happened at the Ohio State Fair. 

The Johnson County Fair does not have the same ride that had a problem in Ohio. 

Starting Monday, the rides in Johnson County will be inspected.

As crews set up for the Johnson County Fair - all eyes are on the rides. 

"I just hope they are inspected," said Henry Hicks who is a father. 

Earlier this week a ride broke down at the Ohio State Fair, killing one and injuring others. 

"Kind of makes you sick to your stomach. If that was one of my kids that would be awful," said Angela Smiley, a mother of two.

Smiley takes her kids to the Johnson County Fair every year. Her concern is that the rides are safe. 

"To the core of my soul, I want to think that they are doing everything they can and they are going to do that," Smiley said. "I think they will do even more this year because of what happened."

Clarence Linsey is on the Executive Board of the fair. 

He wants people to know the fair here is safe. 

"It is tragic what happened. I don't think that will happen here. We do a good job of having things inspected. Of course, that is what happened there but things do happen," said Linsey. 

Henry Hicks is not worried about the safety of the rides. 

He hopes what happened in Ohio doesn't detour people from coming to the fair this week. 

"It's a family outing, do things with your family and it helps the community," said Hicks. 

The fair officially started today with animal events. If you are looking to ride rides, that starts Tuesday.
