KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rejoice, Olathe residents, Santa Fe Street will reopen Monday after construction of a tunnel from the jail to the new courthouse location wrapped up on schedule.

Crews closed Santa Fe between Chestnut Street and Kansas Avenue on Feb. 11 for the eight-week project to accommodate the building of a tunnel that runs from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Central Booking facility to the new Johnson County Courthouse.

Construction of the tunnel, which is used for the secure transport of inmates between the jail and court, is part of a $193 million project. The new courthouse is expected to open late next year.

JE Dunn broke ground on the new courthouse, which should have 28 courtrooms in a modernized and ADA-compliant facility, in July 2018.

Santa Fe should reopen in time for Monday's morning rush hour.
