KANSAS CITY, Mo. — High school students in Lawrence, Kansas are one step closer to being able to hit the snooze button on school mornings.

The Lawrence Public Schools Board of Education adopted the recommendations of a task force Monday night to push back high school start times from 8:05 to 8:30 a.m.

Using research, surveys of students, parents and staff and focus groups, the High School Start Time Advisory Committee recommended the change be pushed back to promote “health and academic benefits for students associated with getting additional sleep.”

The committee’s recommendation says the community continues to evaluate additional issues as well the implementation of later start times starting in the 2020-2021 school year.
