KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Seattle-area school district is closing schools for 14 days in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.

According to a letter from the superintendent of the Northshore School District, 26 of their schools have been affected by either direct or indirect exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Many parents in the district and staff are self-quarantining or choosing to keep students home.

The superintendent said she made the decision to close with support from local leaders.

The schools will transition to cloud learning, providing instruction to students via an online platform. For students who do not have a computer or internet, the school is providing a computing device and internet hot spot.

As of Thursday morning, there have been 31 confirmed cases of coronavirus and nine deaths in King County where these schools reside.
