VIDEO: Securing your home from break-ins

"We live in a pretty decent neighborhood, but break-ins happen everywhere," said Suzanne Lopez.

Lopez says there have been multiple times strangers have come to her door, only to find out of break-ins in her neighborhood days later. That’s why she got the “Ring” doorbell.

The doorbell has a security camera, and you can answer the door from your phone - even speaking to the person at the door from the comfort of your home, or anywhere else for that matter. The Ring automatically records to her i-Cloud, so if anything happens, the video saves.

"It's been great because you can answer it from practically anywhere you are," said Lopez.

For Lopez, it's a comfort for when she's at home and her husband is working.

"We can definitely check on each other and make sure each other is safe by checking out the ring and seeing who's at the door," said Lopez.

There are more security measures you can take, including a security system. Jade Security uses a radio transmitter to notify their call center in emergencies, eliminating the need for a phone line.

"We are not affected by either cell jammers nor are we affected by the phone lines being cut, and burglars are doing both," said President of Jade Joseph Pfefer.

They also provide a phone app.

“Let's see, is my alarmed system armed, well at my house at the moment it's disarmed, I can arm it either only the perimeter, only the doors and windows or everything all from here," said Pfefer.

Alarm systems start at $900. The Ring is about $200.
