Semi hits disabled pickup on I-35, driver dies

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The driver of a pickup truck was killed just after midnight on Interstate 35 near 119th Street in Olathe, Kansas, when it wrecked into the median and was struck by a passing semi tractor-trailer.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said a the truck was traveling northbound on I-35 when the driver lost control, struck the median barrier wall, and became disabled in the far left lane.

The semi, which also was traveling northbound, did not see the disabled pickup and struck it. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Nolvin Nain Lopez-Flores, of Kansas City, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the original crash is under investigation.
