Shawnee man charged with murder of Kansas City woman

SHAWNEE, Kan. — A Shawnee man has been charged in the death of a Kansas City woman, one week after she was assaulted and four days after she succumbed to her injuries.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe announced Felipe Chavez Jr., 28, is charged with Premeditated First Degree Murder, Rape and Aggravated Criminal Sodomy.

On July 13, around 11:30 a.m., Shawnee Police were called to Advent Health Shawnee Mission Medical Center to investigate a domestic battery.

30-year-old Lucia Frayre, of Kansas City, was unconscious and and receiving treatment.

On Thursday, July 16, she passed away.

On Friday, July 19, Chavez was arrested, and he was officially charged Saturday morning.

He will make his first appearance in court on Monday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m.

Chavez is being held on a $1 million cash or surety bond.
