KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Shawnee, Kansas, man was convicted of murder in Platte County Wednesday.
According to county officials, 28-year-old Coty Borst was found guilty of second degree murder and armed criminal action for a shooting that took place the night of June 21, 2018.
Prosecutors argued that Borst shot a man in the back at a Houston Lake home, then hid from police in a creek.
Detectives said Borst gave several inconsistent stories, but in the end admitted to shooting the victim after an altercation.
The Shawnee man testified in his own defense at the trial, claiming self-defense.
His sentencing is set for April 23. Borst could receive up to life in prison.
