KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Students in the Shawnee Mission School District will end the academic year before Memorial Day.
The SMSD Board of Education approved the earlier release during its meeting Monday night, moving up the last day of school to May 27.
The Kansas State Board of Education offered districts a “one-time” opportunity to adjust how they calculate learning hours, allowing for adjustment, according to a memo from Darren Dennis, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Graduation dates also have changed as a result.
