KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee Mission School District has selected Dr. Mike Fulton to serve as the new superintendent.

The school board's vote was unanimous.

Fulton has been the superintendent of the Pattonville School District in the greater St. Louis area for the last 11 years. Prior to that, he taught middle school and was the assessment coordinator for the School District of Clayton, Missouri.

Fulton received his bachelor’s at Southwest Missouri State University, his master’s at Illinois State University and a doctorate in education at Saint Louis University.

Fulton takes over after Jim Hinson abruptly announced his retirement last year. Deputy Superintendent Ken Southwick served as interim superintendent after Hinson stepped down.
