Shot fired near Kansas Congressman's home

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police say a shot was fired across the street from Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder's home Friday night.

The incident did not involve Yoder, and Yoder and his family were not home at the time.

Overland Park police said the incident involved Yoder's neighbor and a contractor. The two were apparently in a dispute over an air conditioning repair.

Police say the contractor threw a hammer at the neighbor when the man's back was turned. The hammer landed in Yoder's driveway. The two then got into a physical fight.

Eventually, the homeowner fired one warning shot near the contractor.

Officers said a second neighbor heard the gunshot and called 911.

No one was seriously hurt. Police say the contractor eventually left the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate.
