KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee Mission School District said Monday that Dr. Doug Sumner has resigned from his position as associate superintendent for human resources, effective Dec. 31.
In a news release, SMSD Superintendent Dr. Mike Fulton said, “I know that this was a difficult decision for Dr. Sumner, but something he decided was in the best interest of both him and his family.”
In the meantime, Dr. Michael Schumacher has agreed to become the interim associate superintendent for human resources. The district said several other district staff members will take on additional duties as well.
Both Schumacher's appointment and Sumner's resignation will be considered Monday night at the Board of Education meeting.
The district did not give a reason for Sumner's resignation.
