KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee Mission School District Board will start interviews for the vacant superintendent over the next several weeks.

In a press release sent out Monday night, the SMSD Board said a group of candidates was whittled down from 67 applicants found by Ray & Associates, a consulting firm conducting the search.

The board didn't say how many applicants it's interviewing in the first round but hopes to have the first and second rounds completed by the end of February.

The names of candidates aren't being released publicly in the early stages to respect their current employment status.

A candidate could be selected as early as the end of March.

The former superintendent, Jim Hinson, suddenly resigned last year. Deputy Superintendent Kenny Southwick is filling the role while the district searches for a replacement.
