KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Snow and ice this winter has been a challenged for delivery drivers in the Kansas City metro area.
While you probably sat in your warm home Saturday, many around town ordered take-out and had the meal delivered.
Asked how rough the last 48 hours navigating the roads have been for delivery drivers on a scale of one to 10, Minsky's Pizza delivery driver Ripan Bhowmik said, "I would say like 11."
While it is hot in the kitchen, where a small army is baking, cutting and boxing pizzas, it's drivers like Bhowmik who brave the elements to make sure the hungry get some grub on snowy nights.
"Yesterday, this was all covered," Bhowmik said while making a delivery Saturday night in Brookside. "You could not drive at all, you drive like 5 miles per hour."
Saturday night is already a busy one for Minsky's Pizza, but crazy weather makes it even busier for drivers.
Bhowmik says on a typical Saturday they have about seven drivers, each making about 20 to 25 deliveries.
When conditions are bad, Bhowmik tries to do his job with a smile.
"You get to know people all the time," he said. "I get to meet you."
