Kansas City’s Economic Development Corporation posted plans late Friday afternoon for how the city will pay for its contribution to a downtown baseball stadium for the Royals.

On Thursday, the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council agreed to contribute $600 million toward the project. The documents posted Friday lay out more details about where the money will come from.

The plan said there is enough blight in the project area surrounding the proposed stadium site, located near 25th Street and Gillham Road, to qualify for a tax increment financing (TIF) district.

The city will redirect any tax revenue above the current baseline from within the boundaries of the TIF district to pay off the project.

The city will also consider a 1% sales tax added to every purchase within a community improvement district to fund its portion of the stadium.

The earliest the city’s TIF Commission could review these plans publicly is Aug. 26.
