Seven-hour long standoff ends in Sugar Creek

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A standoff that started in Sugar Creek last night ended seven hours later.

Police responded to the 11500 block of Hackett around 11:45 pm last night.

Police say when they arrived, there was a man shooting up the inside of his home and at officers.

The man ended up shooting himself. He was taken to an local hospital. It's not known at this time if his injuries are life-threatening.

KCPD and Independence police assisted with the call.

Some neighbors were evacuated during the standoff, others were told to move to their basement or the back of their house because it was too dangerous to move them at the time.

Bus routes were stopped in the area during the standoff.
