Storms sweep through Kansas City for second night

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Another round of storms moved through the Kansas City area Thursday night, producing strong winds and lightning.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued overnight, and several areas of the metro were affected by what the storm produced.

As of 5:30 a.m., 21,000 Evergy customers were without power.

By 10 a.m. that number was down to 6,600 customers.

In Shawnee, firefighters said a lightning strike set a home on fire near West 76th Terrace and Parkhill Street.

The homeowner was the only one home and was able to get out safely.

A tree came down on a home near 85th Street and Highland Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

Neighbors told 41 Action News that no one was hurt.

Other houses were cut off when a large tree fell in the road near 86th Street and Woodland Avenue.

41 Action News Meteorologist estimates winds got up between 50 and 65 miles per hour.
