KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Parents at Corinth Elementary School in Prairie Village, Kansas, are on alert after a stranger approached a student on the way home from school.

The school, which is in the Shawnee Mission School District, sent an email to parents on Thursday alerting them about the situation.

According to the message, a stranger in a white van approached a student near 83rd Street and Roe Avenue on Wednesday. The stranger then asked the student to get in the van. The student ran off to get help.

"We are glad that the student told a caring and responsible adult what happened," principal Chris Lowe said in the message to parents. "Please use this moment to review safety procedures with your children, including sharing the importance of walking or playing in groups."

Lowe said that the school is asking students and parents to be vigilant and report any strange activity.

Prairie Village police told 41 Action News that officers are investigating the incident.
