KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Stroud’s said Tuesday that it closed its Fairway location after a planned redevelopment of the space did not materialize.

In a news release, Stroud’s said that it entered into a short-term lease for the location at 4200 Shawnee Mission Parkway several years ago, after the landlord said the property would be redeveloped.

The restaurant said that repairs and updates to the building and parking lot “are seriously needed,” and that the current state of the space is “simply not to Stroud’s standards."

Stroud's said the landlord has been "professional" but does not know the status of the redevelopment plan due to "some variables beyond their control."

The Fairway location closed on Monday.

Stroud’s also has locations in Overland Park and in Kansas City, North. Those locations will remain open.

The Fairway location’s 25 employees will be offered jobs at the restaurant’s two other metro locations, according to the release.

Stroud's original location at 85th and Troost opened in 1933 as a barbecue restaurant. It began serving pan-fried chicken during World War II because beef was being rationed.

The original location closed in 2006, and the Fairway location opened in 2008.
