KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police are reminding parents that summer curfew begins Memorial Day weekend.
Police said Thursday the curfew, which will officially begin on Friday, May 24, “is meant to promote a safe environment for all.”
The curfew affects only young people out without a parent or other responsible adult after evening hours, police said.
In entertainment districts, including the Plaza, Westport, Jazz District, Zona Rosa, and downtown, anyone 17 years old or younger must have a parent or guardian present after 9:00 p.m.
Citywide, the curfew mandates that anyone 15 or younger have an adult with them after 10:00 p.m. For 16- and 17-year-olds, the cutoff is 11:00 p.m.
Police said that if a minor is found in violation of the curfew, they could be detained – and their parent or guardian will be issued a citation.
The citation carries a recommended minimum fine of $125 and maximum of $500.
The curfew will be in effect until the last Sunday in September.
Police highlighted alternative activities for teens, including ClubKC events, PAL Nights, public library events and summer camps.
