KANSAS CITY, Mo. — City Union Mission is asking for the community's help after it was robbed last Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Mission said thieves disabled an alarm on a large walk-freezer at the warehouse on 8th Street.

They only took $500 worth of meat, but left the freezer open, spoiling the rest of the contents, which were valued at $50,000.

The Mission said the freezer was also damaged during the break-in and is not working right.

Leaders reported the incident to police and are now asking for Kansas City's help restocking their shelves.

The Mission said the best way to help is through a monetary donation, which it can use to purchase specific cuts of meat and other food products, or put towards the freezer repair.

Donations can be made online or mailed to 1100 E. 11 St., Kansas City, Missouri, 64106.

Businesses that wish to donate a surplus or gift of meat should call 816-474-9380.
