Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday night, a white SUV drove through the intersection at 38th and Benton and hit a police cruiser, injuring two Kansas City police officers.
Police say the officers were north on Benton when they were asked to respond to a call.
The officers had reportedly not yet turned on their lights and sirens, when the white SUV driving east on 38th Street crashed into the police car.
The two officers received substantial injuries, but the suspect in the white SUV continued driving on.
The officers were transported to an area hospital. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening.
An investigation is underway. Police investigators are working to determine if speed or impairment were factors in the wreck.
