KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands of President Trump's supporters are expected to meet Saturday afternoon near the Liberty Memorial Tower for "a parade" through the streets of Kansas City, Missouri, according to an event created on Facebook.

“We have seen posts from people all over, as far away as St. Louis, as far away as Iowa," Virginia Macha, of Pop Up 4 Trump, said.

It's hard to predict the turnout, but people are planning to travel from across the state and even out of state to participate in the event based on social media responses. Supporters will begin to gather at 2 p.m. with the parade set to start at 3 p.m.

“We think there’s a lot of positives about America and that’s what we’re here to celebrate," Macha said.

Supporters plan to decorate their cars and drive from the Liberty Memorial to the Country Club Plaza.

Similar events have taken place across the country and organizers told 41 Action News they wanted to bring it to the KC area.

“We just want to be able to say, 'It’s OK to be Republican. It’s OK to vote for President Trump,'" Adrienne Foster, Pop Up 4 Trump member, said.

The Pop Up 4 Trump group is traveling across the state of Kansas, encouraging people to register to vote.

“No matter how you vote, your vote counts, every vote counts, every time," Foster, who finished third among five candidates in the August primary for the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Sharice Davids, said.

Kansas City police said they expect the parade to draw counter-protests. KCPD is prepared to keep the peace, but police are not expecting any violence.

“It is going to be really a fun event," Foster said. "We’re not there for protests. We’re not there to cause trouble. We’re there because we all want to celebrate America."

While organizers are calling the event a parade, KCPD said the group does not have a permit, so it's really more of an organized ride through town.
