Three dead in Friday afternoon crash on Interstate 29 in Platte County

A Friday afternoon crash killed three people on southbound Interstate 29 near Platte City.

The crash happened at 12:24 p.m. near Missouri 92 Highway, according to a spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Two of the vehicles involved in the crash were stopped in one lane because of a traffic jam caused by highway construction, according to the crash report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

A 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 truck slammed into the back of a 2004 GMC Envoy.

The force of the impact sent the Envoy into a bobtail truck.

The wreck killed the three people in the GMC Envoy.

They were identified as James Wilson, 54, of Effingham, Kansas, the driver, Lisa Wilson, 44, also of Effingham and Carol Wehking, 75 of Lancaster, Kansas. 

John Klapp, 71, of Correctionville, Iowa, was the driver of the 2002 Dodge Ram 3500. He suffered serious injures, according to the report.

Christopher Klapp, 40, also of Correctionville, Iowa, was a passenger in the truck. He suffered minor injuries.
