Three dead in Indiana plane crash that took off from Charles B. Wheeler Airport in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three people died in a plane crash at about 9 p.m. Saturday in Franklin County, Indiana. 

A dog aboard the plane also died, according to KSHB's sister station WCPO. Another dog survived and was evaluated by a veterinarian. 

The Cessna 210 aircraft took off from the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Missouri, headed for Frederick, Maryland, according to Indiana State Police.

The plane landed and refueled in Columbus, Indiana.

Indiana State Police said the plane flew about 60 miles east when the pilot alerted the control tower the aircraft's engines were out. 

The plane crashed behind a home and all three on board died.

The FAA will investigate the crash.
