LAWRENCE, Kan. — Two people were injured and the suspect later died after a shooting at a Lawrence sports bar early Sunday.

Police responded just after 2 a.m. to Playerz Sports Bar, 1910 Haskell Avenue.

Prior to their arrival, officers learned that a male and female were shot in the parking lot and suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later, and attempted to initiate a car stop.

The suspect — identified Wednesday as Terry D. Scearce III of Lawrence — tried to evade officers, but eventually stopped near East 23rd Street and O'Connell Road.

Scearce was discovered in his vehicle with serious, life-threatening injuries from what appeared to be a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital.

Scearce died from his injuries, Lawrence police said Wednesday. Police did not offer additional details on how Scearce was shot.

East 23rd Street from Harper Street to East Hills Drive was closed until around 8 a.m. as officers processed the scene.
