KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three people were shot and a fourth person was trampled Saturday night inside Local Legends Gaming in the 3900 block of Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just before midnight, KCPD officers on routine patrol heard the sound of shots in the area.

After arriving at Local Legends, officers observed numerous people running out the door of the business.

Inside, police found two people suffering from gunshot wounds and a third who had been trampled by the crowd fleeing from the scene.

A third shooting victim was transported to an area hospital by private vehicle.

One shooting victim who remained at the scene suffered critical injuries, while the other two had non-life-threatening injuries and the trampled individual's injuries were minor.

Owner AbdulRasheed Yahaya said he rents event space at the business for youth parties and this was a private event.

"We have never had an altercation, even into a small scuffle, so this comes as a major surprise," Yahaya said.

The non-alcoholic event was for minors celebrating the end of the school year. Yahaya said he hired four security guards, who were checking IDs and patting down party-goers, for the event.

Yahaya said none of the gaming consoles or TV sets were damaged, because they were placed in storage during this event.

Despite this shooting, Yahaya hoped his place can continue to be a safe space, a place that keeps kids away from negative influences.

"Yes, it is disheartening, but some of those things we can't control," he said. "We can just make the best effort to provide that safe environment."

Yahaya estimated the damge from Saturday's incident to be between $3,000-4,000. He said he hopes to reopen soon to the public. plans to reopen Local Legends soon.
