KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tow truck drivers with Santa Fe Tow Service in Lenexa, Kansas, said they study weather forecasts ahead of snowstorms to help them better prepare for their days.

About an inch of snow fell Tuesday night into Wednesday morning around the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Tuesday morning, a lighter amount of snow froze on the streets, creating a busy workload for the towing company.

“It kind of hypes us up and gets us a little excited for mornings like this. We know it’s going to be go, go, go and that’s what drives us, being out there helping the community, helping people who are stranded,” explained office manager Kaileigh Kupchin.

She said those icy road conditions Tuesday morning led to a lot of drivers sliding off the roadway and needing a tow. Her advice for someone who slides off the road is to remain in their car.

“With the ice, people don’t have control. So it’s better to be barricaded by a car. That way, if you do get hit, you’re inside the vehicle and the vehicle gets hit and not you,” she explained.

Santa Fe Tow Service has about 55 tow trucks in its fleet and a variety of other equipment to handle towing semi trucks and other large vehicles.
