Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will close three eastbound lanes of I-435 from Quivira to Metcalf, leaving just one lane open to traffic.
One westbound lane will be closed for two weeks.
KDOT crews are painting stripes on the highway in the last step of a long construction project.
"For the past two years, we have been reconstructing pavement, so during that time, we have had traffic configured in a temporary set up," KDOT Traffic Engineer Kevin Kellerman said. "So now we are moving traffic back into the original lanes."
While this is one of the biggest travel weeks of the year, KDOT crews said freezing temperatures caused delays, and that's why they have to get the work done now.
"The snow that came ahead of us last week, a couple of weeks ago, really put a damper on our schedule," Kellerman said. "We were supposed to be done this past weekend, but we have been delayed because of that snow."
Crews are scheduled to finish up around 5 p.m.
