KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dozens grieving the loss of a loved one gathered for a tree lighting and remembrance program on Thursday night.

For the last six years, Terrace Park Funeral Home in Kansas City, Missouri, has held a program every year for those struggling during the holiday season.

"The holidays are such an emotional time for everyone, especially the first holiday after losing somebody that you care about, and really love. So this program gives an opportunity to remember, reflect, and to renew through the Christmas holiday, as well as through the year to come," said Phil Zehms, general manager and funeral director.

The tree floats in the middle of the lake and is supposed to represent a bright light in the darkest of times. Zehms said everyone is welcome to visit and take in the tree.

The Lakeside Chapel also lights 1,200 luminary bags along the pathway.
