KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two children in Kansas City, Missouri, were struck by vehicles in separate incidents only four minutes and four miles apart Sunday afternoon.

An early elementary school-age child was struck by a vehicle at 3:41 p.m. in the area of East 40th Street and Wayne Avenue. Police said a driver tried to go around a vehicle stopped in the roadway and struck a child crossing the street.

The children was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The driver allegedly tried to flee, but was eventually taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving while revoked and numerous warrants.

Four minutes and roughly four miles away, another juvenile was struck by a vehicle at 3:45 p.m. in the area of East 26th Street and Drury Avenue. A vehicle was driving westbound on 26th Street when a child on a bike ran a stop sign and struck the side of the moving vehicle, police said.

The child was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

During the investigation, police determined the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated, and the person was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
