Two killed in wrong way crash on U.S. 71

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people were killed in a wrong way crash on U.S. 71 at 29th Street early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:16 a.m. Sunday morning in the northbound lanes of U.S. 71.

Police said a red Toyota Corolla was traveling north on U.S. 71 when it spun out of control near Truman Road, and then started traveling south in the northbound lanes of the highway.

At East 29th Street, the Toyota struck a black Chevrolet Camaro head-on.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported with moderate injuries, and is listed in stable condition.

The front passenger of the Chevrolet suffered life-threatening injuries.

Names of the victims have not been released.
