INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Two people suffered serious injuries after a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Noland Road and 23rd Street in Independence.

Independence police said a woman was standing on the median in the intersection of Noland Road and 23rd Street around 1:30 on Thursday when she was struck by a car.

The driver then went through the intersection and hit a parked car at an auto care business across the street.

Both the driver and pedestrian were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The crash caused a brief backup of traffic at the intersection.
