KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Tuesday marked the ninth day United Auto Workers' members across the country have been on strike against General Motors.

At GM's Fairfax Assembly & Stamping Plant, around 2,000 members have been on strike since last Monday.

Dozens of picketers planted themselves at each of the entrances of the plant.

One of the picketers, James Wilson, spoke with 41 Action News, saying he's been picketing since last Monday and was part of the 2008 strike as well. He said right now, he's concerned about his family's livelihood.

"We haven't even had a cost of living or a raise in 20 years and we can't keep up with the prices of everything going up to be able to live," Wilson said. "My son and daughter work here. I can't leave knowing that they don't have a future."

Members of the union want better pay, job security and health care.

Across the country, according to CNBC, another 1,200 workers in the U.S. and Canada were furloughed Monday due to the strike. That's on top of the roughly 4,500 layoffs last Friday.

Negotiations will continue today between the union and GM, but it's uncertain when the strike will actually end.
