INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - An Independence restaurant is closed after a viral video showed a rodent and bugs inside the facility.
Facebook user Yhwh Yeshua Hines posted the video on Tuesday.
41 Action News went by East Buffet on Highway 40 on Friday and found a sign on the door that read closed for remodeling.
After a complaint was filed, inspectors went to the restaurant on Wednesday. During that inspection, the city found no critical violations, but several non-critical violations.
A non-critical violation is one “relating to maintenance and cleanliness of food service programs."
In the inspection report, inspectors noted finding an “extensive amount of droppings” and “a large amount of sticky traps everywhere with bugs on them.”
The inspection report also says the restaurant “was also very dirty.”
In the restaurant’s previous inspection on March 22, the restaurant received six non-critical violations.
In a statement sent to 41 Action News, the city said although it regularly monitors social media for “citizen concerns and works to address them in a timely fashion, citizens can assist in this by reporting possible violations or problems.”
