MANHATTAN, Kan. — Coronavirus cases in a Kansas university community have spiked since classes resumed.
The Manhattan Mercury reported that COVID-19 cases in Riley County increased nearly 135% in the three weeks since Kansas State University reopened.
That's a total case increase from 500 on Aug. 17 to 1,174 Friday.
Active cases increased more than 400%, from 125 to 679 in the same period.
The county health department has declared outbreaks at three fraternities, six sororities and the college football team.
Students at the University of Kansas in Lawrence plan to strike Monday to pressure the university to close campus.
