Waldo homeowners schedule meeting with city leaders to discuss flooding

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nona Sweeten loves living in Waldo.

“I love it out here. People are great. Great restaurants, a couple of good bars out there,” Sweeten said.

The problem is that she oftentimes needs a boat to get there. Sweeten said her block looks like a river whenever there’s a significant downpour.

For many homeowners, that means cash is flowing out of their pockets just like the water is down the streets.

Miranda Lenz braces herself for the worst just about every time it rains. Just last week she had to dry out her basement.

“Around 3:45 in the morning we heard a crash in the basement. We go downstairs and the bottom steps are immersed in water. We measured it and there was just under a foot of water. There were boxes floating in the water," Lenz recalled.

The incident left her out nearly $6,000.

Because of the growing frustration, the “Here’s Waldo Neighborhood Association” will host engineers from the KCMO Water Department.

Homeowners will have a chance to express concerns and learn more about what can be done to protect themselves.

The meeting will be Wednesday at 6 p.m at the Sherwood Autism Center, 8030 Ward Parkway Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri, 64114.
